Texas loses commitment from No. 1 2022 recruit, holds Oklahoma offer

The bombshells of bombshells dropped on Wednesday night in the world of recruiting. The No. 1 2022 recruit backed off his pledge to Texas.

The bombshells of bombshells dropped on Wednesday night in the world of recruiting.

Southlake Carroll High School (Texas) quarterback Quinn Ewers is the top player in the entire 2022 recruiting class. The Texas native held offers from any place he wanted to go in college football.

Ewers chose his childhood favorite in the Texas Longhorns just under three months ago on a late Friday afternoon. It sent a resounding shock wave of, ‘Texas got its guy,’ in the world of college football and some of the top recruits were already starting to lean towards playing in Austin, Texas, for their college career.

Texas’ 2020 season is off to a rocky start, barely beating Texas Tech before losing to TCU at home and Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl. The Longhorns took care of business against Baylor on Saturday, but the damage had already been done.

Turmoil is the word for Texas for much of the last decade. This season has been no different.

The result is Ewers backing off of his commitment to the Longhorns and re-opening his recruitment. An utter shock in the recruiting world, but something that isn’t the most surprising.

Oklahoma was heavily involved in his recruitment prior to his commitment to Texas. Ohio State, Clemson and Alabama are some of the heavy suitors with the Buckeyes being rumored to be the potential destination for the No. 1 overall recruit.

The Sooners have No. 1 2021 quarterback Caleb Williams committed. That could ultimately be the factor as to why Ewers takes his talents out of the region.

It hasn’t been determined how much of a shot Oklahoma has with his recruitment opened back up.
