Texas Longhorns vs West Virginia: Game grades from the 17-13 win

Following the Texas Longhorns win over the West Virginia Mountaineers, we are handing out grades in the virtual report card.

The Wide Receivers and Tight Ends

Grade: C-

The wide receiver corps were all over the place for the Longhorns. The leading receiver was Brennan Eagles and he hauled in four passes for 43 yards and a touchdown. It could have been more than that had it not been for some timely play from the West Virginia defense. The other main target involved in the passing game was Jake Smith. He also finished with a touchdown on a 33-yard pass from Ehlinger. Smith led the team with 59 receiving yards on three receptions.

Joshua Moore would end up leaving the game with a shoulder injury and wouldn’t record a single reception. Tarik Black, Brendan Schooler and Malcolm Epps would all record a reception. The backs combined for five receptions for 52 yards. The issue in this game is when Ehlinger did look their way, the wide receivers dropped a few passes down the field. The tight end duo of Jared Wiley and Cade Brewer added nothing in the passing game. Overall not the best performance from this group.
