After starting the second half nearly flawless, the Texas Longhorns are now on the ropes. They will enter the fourth quarter leading 20-13 with Iowa State driving inside the red zone.
Texas’ defense came up huge on the Cyclones’ first two possessions. Forcing a punt for the first time tonight and making a crucial red zone stop. The pass rush has been incredible inside the 20-yard line. Defensive tackle Keondre Coburn was able to get a sack.
Offensively, wide receiver Brennan Eagles came up with another big play downfield. He accounts for 127 of Sam Ehlinger’s 206 yards while also leading with way with four receptions.
Jared Wiley scored the Longhorns’ second touchdown of the day for his only reception. The tight end was wide open in the corner of the endzone, responding after an Iowa State field goal.
Breece Hall has continued to be contained by the Texas defense. If the Cyclones are going to win this game, Brock Purdy is going to have to beat the Longhorns. His inability in the red zone has been the key so far.
Third-quarter stats
Sam Ehlinger: 10 of 16 for 206 yards and one touchdown. Six carries for 33 yards and one touchdown
Bijan Robinson: 13 carries for 44 yards
Brennan Eagles: Four receptions for 127 yards
Breece Hall: 14 carries for 54 yards
