Texas Longhorns vs Iowa State Cyclones: First half recap

UT ended the first quarter up 10 points. ISU has been able to erase that lead as both teams head into the locker room with Texas up 13-10.

Sam Ehlinger and the Texas Longhorns ended the first quarter up 10 points. Iowa State has been able to shrink that lead as both teams head into the locker room with Texas up 13-10.

The offense stalled in their lone possession of the second half, punting after four plays. With normal punter Ryan Bujcevski out for the season with a torn ACL, Cameron Dicker has taken over punting duties. He booted one 40 yards downfield, inside the 20-yard line.

Breece Hall’s inability to get a big play off has been a win so far for Texas’ defense. The country’s leading rusher is averaging 3.7 yards on ten carries, well below his 6.5 yearly average.

While Ehlinger’s numbers look efficient, he has once again been off on his long ball, overshooting receiver by a good five to 10 yards. However, he is still averaging 13.2 yards per attempt.

Texas’ defense must be able to get off the field in the second half. Iowa State had possession for 11:26 of the second quarter. Giving Ehlinger and company on the offensive side of the ball opportunities is the only way to pull this one out.

Once they do have the ball, going back to true freshman Bijan Robinson for steady yards will be key. Getting wide receivers Jake Smith and Joshua Moore will also be needed from Mike Yurcich.

Iowa State will receive the second-half kickoff.
