Texas Longhorns vs Iowa State: A look at the numbers

Much like the 2018 game, the Cyclones and Longhorns are preparing for a Big 12 Championship knockout game. A look at the numbers.

The biggest game of the weekend just might happen on Friday afternoon. The No. 13 Iowa State Cyclones come to Austin for a Big 12 fight with the No. 17 Texas Longhorns.

This has been dubbed a knockout game on both sides. If Iowa State defeats Texas for a second-straight, they will make history. Not only have the Cyclones never beat the Longhorns in consecutive years but they haven’t won a conference championship since 1912. It has been 108 years since they have been in position.

In 2018 the Cyclones needed a win to get into the title game against Oklahoma. 2020 has the same exact feeling as that 2018 game. That year both teams were in the top 20 of the CFP rankings, this time around Iowa State is the higher-ranked team. The Longhorns beat the Cyclones in that game in 2018, 24-10. The Cyclones would eventually watch Texas take on the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Championship game.

A victory by the Longhorns and it could very well happen again. A victory by the Cyclones and they are in the Big 12 Championship game. The Longhorns can play spoiler and get a step closer to a rematch with Oklahoma.
