Sam Ehlinger, Quarterback
It is really easy to point to the quarterback as a key player, almost a cop out to put Sam Ehlinger. However, when you look at this team over the past couple of the weeks you can argue that his responsible for both the highs and the lows. Against the Sooners, Ehlinger wasn’t able to complete a pass beyond 20 yards down the field. An area that he has really struggled with for most of the season.

When the Longhorns have won the game, Ehlinger has been able to push the ball down field. When he hasn’t been able to, well they lose and it hasn’t been pretty. Texas needs their quarterback to be on his game and complete some of those throws down the field. At least in the middle of the field.
Game Result | Deep Left | Deep Middle | Deep Right | Yards | TD-INT |
Wins | 1/7 | 5/9 | 1/2 | 179 | 3-0 |
Losses | 0/4 | 1/7 | 0/4 | 45 | 1-2 |
As Ehlinger goes, so does this team. They haven’t been able to be consistent this season and have had to rely on Sam to play hero ball at the end of games. Twice the team needed 14+ points in the final minutes to force overtime. Luckily for the team they have a player like 11 who can be called upon to get the job done. That can’t be a plan every week. Waiting around for someone to play hero ball. Against Baylor, Sam needs to get it rectified and have this offense rolling.
