Since Quinn Ewers committed to Texas, the Southlake Carroll quarterback has been attempting to attract other top prospects to Austin. He and 2022 four-star wide receiver Phaizon Wilson held a throwing session with other top wide receivers Evan Stewart and Armani Winfield.
Both Stewart and Winfield both gave an update on their recruitments recently with InsideTexas. The two talked about which schools are pushing the hardest, where they stand with the Longhorns and their relationships with the coaches.
Beginning with Stewart, the Frisco native is the No. 7 wide receiver in the class. The four-star currently holds 29 offers, including six Big 12 schools.
“Texas, OU, Oregon, Penn State, and Baylor,” Stewart said about who recruit him the most.
Stewart did not say who is currently leading the race but did mention how he is a fan of Texas.
“I like Texas. I like the burnt orange. I like the all-white jerseys. I just like their swag when they come out.”
Despite coaching defensive backs, Jay Valai has been the one recruiting Stewart. Frisco is right in the middle of Valai’s recruiting region. Wide receiver coach Andre Coleman has also been in contact with Stewart but Valai has the strongest relationship.
“Coach (Jay) Valai puts out a good vibe.”
Moving over to Winfield, the four-star was heavily leaning towards Oklahoma. Then, Ewers’ commitment changed it all.
Now, it seems as if it will come down to Texas and two out-of-state schools.
“Texas, most definitely,” said Winfield about who stands out. “Ohio State and Arizona State too. I can really relate to the ASU staff.”
Growing up in the state of Texas, Winfield already knows everything the Longhorns can bring home. Not only on the football field but off as well.
“I like Texas because I grew up in Texas,” Winfield said. “Why not put on for UT? I feel like me growing up in Texas, I can bring my skills, and with the new NIL rules, building that brand. I already have my fanbase right here.”
The No. 12 wide receiver in the country, Winfield also ranks as the No. 12 player in the state of Texas. On the 247Sports composite, the high school junior is a top 75 player, ranking No. 73 overall.
Winfield did not give a timeline on when he would commit but knows how quickly the class could fill up. Thanks to Ewers, players from across the country will want to have their chance to play in Austin.
After landing the elite quarterback, elite pass catchers must follow. Stewart, Wilson, and Winfield can bring exactly that.
