Texas Longhorns QB Arch Manning scores 2 TDs on first 3 plays from scrimmage

After a Quinn Ewers injury, Texas Longhorns backup QB Arch Manning threw for a TD on his first play, then ran for a 67-yard TD on his third.

It was quite an entrance for Texas Longhorns backup quarterback Arch Manning against UTSA Saturday night at DKR in Austin.

Quinn Ewers banged up his hand in the first quarter, then seemed to tweak something in his lower rib cage early in the second quarter. Ewers spent about 15 minutes in the Texas medical tent before leaving for the locker room with a towel on his head. He later returned in street clothes.

Enter celebrated backup quarterback Arch Manning. Ewers had driven the Texas offense to the UTSA 19-yard-line for leaving with the injury.

On Arch’s first snap, the redshirt freshman rolled to his right and hit DeAndre Moore in stride at the 8-yard-line. Moore strolled into the endzone for the touchdown. The TD and extra point gave Texas a 21-0 lead.

After giving up a 53-yard TD run to UTSA running back Robert Henry, the Texas offense took over at the Roadrunners 25-yard line. Quintrevion Wisner’s 8-yard run set up 2nd and 2 from the UTSA 33-yard line.

Manning then ran for a 67-yard TD on a called QB option. Arch made a couple moves to put the Roadrunners defense off guard, then ran away from the entire UTSA team showing his deceptive speed. The long TD gave Texas a 28-7 lead.
