Texas Longhorns Football: Three reasons for the win over Texas Tech

It was tighter than expected but UT found a way in the Big 12 opener. Here are three reasons UT was able to get a victory over Texas Tech:

Joshua Moore’s clutch touchdown receptions

Sam Ehlinger’s favorite target in 2019 was now Baltimore Raven Devin Duvernay. A top receiver was going to be needed for the quarterback throughout the season and Ehlinger found another No. 6 to throw to.

Joshua Moore stood out against UTEP and made sure he brought the same dynamic to Lubbock. It began late in the first quarter, making an incredible touchdown catch over two Texas Tech defenders, deserving of being featured on ESPN’s “You Got Mossed” segment.

Then, when it mattered the most, Moore stepped up in the clutch for the Texas offense. The sophomore was on the receiving end of the game-tying and game-winning touchdowns from Ehlinger.

In regulation, Moore ran a seam up the middle of the field and found himself open in the middle of the endzone. He was able to absorb a hit from a Texas Tech receiver and hold onto the ball.

Once in the extra period, Moore found himself wide open again in the endzone to restore Texas’ lead.

Matched up one-on-one on the outside, Moore beat the cornerback on a slant route. A play fake to Keaontay Ingram kept the safety put for just the right amount of time and Moore was there for six.

Dealing with injuries and off the field issues over the past two years, Moore has used those moments to make himself a better football player. His production has shown up early and often this season. Hopefully, Moore’s ability will continue to shine all year long.
