There have been struggles on and off the court for Texas over the past few weeks. COVID-19 has taken out multiple players including head coach Shaka Smart. While everyone is seemingly back and healthy now, the Longhorns have been attempting to get back in shape.
Because of that, the results on the court have been suffering as well. Texas has lost four consecutive games. The latest came on Saturday, with Oklahoma State winning a double-overtime thriller in Stillwater.
In the latest AP poll, the Longhorns fell out of the top 10 for the first time since Dec. 14. Texas comes in at No. 13 and is now sitting one spot behind Oklahoma. The Sooners are coming off a weekend win over Iowa State.
Despite dealing with COVID-19 complications themselves, Baylor remains the No. 2 team in the country. The Bears are 17-0 and have seemed like one of the few unstoppable forces this season. If Baylor gets to play all of their conference games, it’s hard to see anybody being able to defeat them.
Texas Tech (No. 7), West Virginia (No. 14), and Oklahoma State (No. 23) are the final three Big 12 teams ranked. For the first time since 2009, Kansas is unranked in the AP poll. The Jayhawks have two wins in their last seven, with all five losses coming to ranked opponents.
