After weeks of anticipation, four-star linebacker Jonathan Cunningham committed on Friday. The Texas native chose the Longhorns over TCU and Utah. After missing out on a few top recruits recently, Texas had a reason to celebrate as their defense improved.
The Longhorns have added a talented player at a premium position in Cunningham. Rivals ranked him as the No. 56 player in the state and the No. 24 linebacker in the 2025 class. With Cunningham now in the fold, Texas has two linebackers in its 2025 class.
In his junior season for North Crowley, Cunningham recorded 38 tackles, including nine for a loss. He added one sack to his resume and helped the Panthers to a 14-1 record and 6A State semifinals run. With Cunningham making life difficult for opposing offenses, North Cowley was hard to score on.
Although Texas still has room to add, their 2025 class has 14 commitments. Three have come this month, including four-star edge rusher Smith Orogbo and four-star cornerback Kade Phillips. The Longhorns have been focusing heavily on their defense.

While Cunningham’s collegiate debut is still months away, excitement is building for what he will bring to Austin. The focus for the Longhorns will be to continue adding talent to a recruiting class full of potential.
