Running back Jonathon Brooks has filled the shoes of former Texas star Bijan Robinson nicely.
Brooks leads all Power Five running backs with 726 rushing yards through six weeks. He has excelled in every aspect of his game thus far, and head coach Steve Sarkisian is leaning on Brooks in critical situations and continuing to trust him.
The sophomore also has six rushing touchdowns, which is tied for first in the Big 12 while also being second in yards per attempt with 6.7 (minimum of 60 carries) in the conference.
The 207-pound running back from Hallettsville, Texas took over for Robinson this offseason, who won the Doak Walker Award last year. Brooks has 81 more rushing yards than Bijan did at this point last season.
Now, I’m not taking anything away from Bijan at all. I am simply saying that Brooks has played extremely well in his first season as a starter. Sarkisian should continue to feed Brooks the football as Texas plays their final season in the Big 12 with playoff hopes still manageable.
