Where do the Texas Longhorns fall among the top programs in college football history?
In a recent study by 247Sports, they calculated the winning percentage of each program by “dividing a team’s number of total non-vacated wins, including bowl and playoff games, by their total number of games.”
The Longhorns were ranked among college football’s all-time winningest programs at No. 7 overall. The rankings listed the top 10 programs and Texas and Oklahoma were the only two Big 12 schools to land on the short list.
Here’s what 247Sports had to say about Texas’ storied program.
All-time record: 923–378–33 (.704)
A new era begins at the University of Texas ahead of the 2021 season as first-year coach Steve Sarkisian hopes to bring the Longhorns back into the national title picture as one of college football’s most storied programs. Not since Mack Brown’s tenure have the Longhorns competed for a championship. Brown coached from 1998–2013, compiling an overall record of 158–48 (.767), second only to Darrell Royal for most wins at the program (167–47–5; .774). Royal coached 20 seasons and was a three-time national champion with the Longhorns from 1957–1976. Since Brown’s departure, Texas is just 48-39 overall since the start of the 2014 season under Charlie Strong and Tom Herman, respectively.
Boise State was atop the list at No. 1 overall, followed by Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan and Oklahoma.
