Texas wide receiver Jordan Whittington has experienced an unfortunate series of injuries since arriving on campus.
As a true freshman and former five-star recruit, Whittington was expected to contribute immediately in 2019 before suffering a groin injury that required surgery and sidelined him for the majority of the season.
He’s a versatile playmaker that had a brief position change to running back as a freshman before switching back to wide receiver ahead of the 2020 season. He’s now expected to compete for playing time at the slot position behind fellow teammate Jake Smith.
Unfortunately, injuries continue to creep up on him. In Texas’ season opener against UTEP, Whittington left the game with a knee injury and did not return.
As Tom Herman spoke with the media on Monday, he confirmed that Whittington will miss the next three to four weeks while he undergoes surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
Texas WR Jordan Whittington will have surgery to repair a small tear in his lateral meniscus. Out 3-4 weeks. CB Josh Thompson also got “too many stitches to count” in his ear, per Tom Herman

Other than Whittington, Texas escaped the UTEP game without any major injuries. Cornerback Josh Thompson had stitches to repair a laceration in his ear, but he’s not expected to miss any time.
The Longhorns suddenly lack depth at the slot position now that Whittington will be sidelined. Smith missed the season opener due to a hamstring strain, although he’s expected to be back in time for the Texas Tech game on Sept. 26.
