Following Texas’ 27-16 win over Baylor, Texas head coach Tom Herman sounded optimistic in regards to Joseph Ossai’s injury status.
In Monday’s virtual press conference, Herman clarified the current status of Ossai within the first minute of speaking. Ossai left the Baylor game in the second quarter due to an undisclosed shoulder injury, but was able to return to action after being fitted for a shoulder brace.
His status — primarily the severity of the injury — remained the biggest question mark after the game. Ossai will be desperately needed against an undefeated Oklahoma State squad on Oct. 31, it appears Texas will have their top pass rusher available.
“We stayed relatively healthy — Joseph Ossai being really the only one that we’re keeping an eye on,” Herman stated in his weekly press conference. “In layman’s terms, it’s an anterior capsule sprain and he’ll be braced up. Our plan is to have him participate as tolerated in practice tomorrow [Tuesday]. If he can’t go tomorrow, I would imagine that Wednesday he should be good to go too. I would be pretty surprised if we did not see Joseph Ossai play a significant part in this football game on Saturday in Stillwater.”
This is certainly positive news surrounding Texas’ football program as injuries have seemingly hindered the squad for the majority of the season.
Ossai has forced two fumbles this year while totaling 33 tackles and one sack. He’s widely projected to be selected within the first few rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft.
