Texas Football: Top highlights from the open practice on Tuesday

Several new faces shined in Texas’ open practice this week.

Texas held an open practice to the public on Tuesday evening.

It was the first chance for fans to see many of Texas’ newcomers in action, including true freshman wide receiver Brenen Thompson along with five-star offensive linemen Kelvin Banks and Devon Campbell.

It was strictly labeled a practice and was not meant to show much of Steve Sarkisian’s playbook or strategies. However, there were still many takeaways from the night.

The inconsistent play from quarterbacks Hudson Card and Quinn Ewers has been one of the most talked about topics. Each have certainly had their strong moments throughout fall camp, but ball security is a clear issue between the two and neither one has started to separate from the other.

On a more positive note, speedy wide receiver Brenen Thompson was one of the most pleasant surprises of the open practice. He hauled in two touchdowns and has a legitimate chance to make an immediate impact for the Longhorns following the season-ending injury to Isaiah Neyor.

Here’s a look at some of the top highlights from Texas’ open practice on Tuesday.
