Texas Football: Schemed up downfield plays start this week

Texas will look to use their creativity to exploit defensive voids in coverage.

The playbook could open up for Texas this weekend. The Longhorns will need it to make the Alabama game competitive.

Steve Sarkisian is known for his offensive ingenuity. The game against ULM displayed some of that creativity in the running game. The passing game fun could start this week.

Much was made of Quinn Ewers’ missed throws on Saturday night. Ewers started with an opening series interception, and missed most of his downfield throws. Albeit, the throws could get easier as Texas enters more meaningful games.

Certainly, the Longhorns are not taking the Alabama game lightly. While many have written them off, Texas has multiple recruits coming in to watch their premier nonconference game. Games of this magnitude call for more elaborate play design, and the Texas offensive staff should bring their best plays to the stadium Saturday night.

What does that mean for Ewers? It could mean a schemed up pocket to throw from and wide open receivers downfield. Texas will look to use their creativity to exploit defensive voids in coverage. Under those circumstances, Ewers is likely to deliver.
