Texas Football Recruiting: Four-star OLB Derrick Brown announces top two schools

Baylor or UT will be the choice for four-star edge Derrick Brown. Both Big 12 schools have gotten weekend OVs over the course of June.

The race for one of the most underrated prospects in the country is expected to come to an end on July 20. Derrick Brown is going to make his commitment and is down to his final two schools.

Baylor or Texas will be the choice for the four-star edge prospect. Both have gotten official visits over the course of June. Brown finished up in Waco over the weekend, while his first visit of the summer was in Austin.

Brown released a top eight list back on June 8. Arizona State, Florida State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, TCU, and Texas Tech are no longer in the race.

When looking at the composite, Brown is not the highest-rated. He is the No. 300 player in the country and No. 46 within the state of Texas. Make no mistake, Brown will end up being one of the best prospects of either Baylor or Texas’ class.

Pete Kwiatkowski could fit him right into the jack position, rushing the passer as often as possible. Brown finished with 20 tackles for a loss and six sacks during his junior season at Texas High in Texarkana.

With a decision coming towards the end of July, the coaching staff maintaining the relationship will be important. A post-visit high could give Baylor a short-term lead, but Texas should be considered the favorites heading into the commitment date.
