Texas Football: Positions still of need for 2022 and beyond

The Longhorns still have some holes to fill on their roster.

There is no doubt that Texas has taken major steps to improve the team and program, but they still have some missing pieces on the roster.

The hirings of running backs coach Tashard Choice and receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion will both likely be crucial moves to help the program moving forward, but the roster still has some holes personnel wise that must be fixed.

The common theme that has been occurring with Texas and pursuing transfer portal talent, is the fact that they are getting into the game a tad late. According to 247Sports’ Mike Roach, both defensive end Jared Verse and wide receiver Isaiah Neyor have had some time to build relationships with schools prior to Texas trying to insert themselves.

This is not to take away from the fantastic 2022 class that Texas has put together, but adding veteran players with experience from the transfer portal would remove some pressure and expectations that true freshman will come in and be stars right away.

Needless to say, it does help that the Longhorns brought in the quarterback of the future in Quinn Ewers, but outside of Xavier Worthy, there is not a proven or constantly reliable second option for Ewers to throw to.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff still have time to make some late additions, but they need to kick it into high gear in order to fill some of these needs.

Here are their biggest needs for the 2022 season.
