Texas Football: Longhorns add Notre Dame transfer Ovie Oghoufo

Texas will be adding Notre Dame graduate transfer, defensive lineman Ovie Oghoufo.

Texas and Bo Davis have added another name across its defensive line for the 2021 season.

Ovie Oghoufo, a graduate transfer from Notre Dame, announced on Tuesday that he will be heading to Texas to continue his collegiate career. As an outside linebacker and/or defensive end, Oghoufo will primarily be a pass rusher in Pete Kwiatkowski’s defense.

During his time with the Irish, Oghoufo played in 20 games over the course of three seasons. He recorded 33 tackles, 5.0 sacks, and 5.0 tackles for a loss. The junior was slated to become a starter during the 2020 season but fell behind younger rising stars.

Here is the statement Oghoufo released via Twitter.

“I want to thank my Notre Dame and the entire coaching staff for a wonderful opportunity. To my teammates, I will never forget the bond and brotherhood created over my three years. After much thought and consideration, I’ve decided to commit to the University of Texas as a graduate transfer. I’m excited to get to work… #Hookem”

Oghoufo is the second edge player the Longhorns have added via the transfer portal. LSU transfer Ray Thornton announced he would be heading to Austin on Jan. 17.

With Joseph Ossai off to the NFL draft, the JACK position was going to be thin. Steve Sarkisian and Davis have added two guys who may not have a ton of production on the field, but can be leaders in the locker room at the very least.
