Texas football 2021 projected depth chart, pre-spring offense

Leading up to the season in September, Longhorns Wire will project what the depth chart could look like for Texas. These will often change.

It’s no secret that Steve Sarkisian is inheriting a talented roster at Texas, but how he utilizes each playmaker will be interesting to see.

Spring ball is key for development in general, but even more so under a first-year head coach. When spring practice begins on March 23, it will be the first time Sarkisian will witness these players compete on the field in person.

After roughly four weeks of practice, Texas will hold the annual Orange-White scrimmage on April 24. This will be the first glimpse for fans to see where each player will potentially fit in Sarkisian’s system.

The primary battle to watch on offense is obviously the quarterback competition between Casey Thompson and Hudson Card. Running back Bijan Robinson will likely receive the bulk of carries this season and it’s a good bet that Joshua Moore will remain Texas’ top receiving threat.

Outside of that, there’s likely to be a bit of shuffling around on the offensive line due to the departure of Samuel Cosmi. Could Jared Wiley surpass Cade Brewer on the depth chart at tight end? Who will step up at wide receiver behind Moore and Troy Omeire?

Wide receiver Kelvontay Dixon may not be listed on the two-deep depth charts yet, but Sarkisian heavily values speed and that’s exactly what Dixon brings. If five-star athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders ends up playing anywhere on the offensive side of the ball, he could quickly climb the depth chart as well.
