Texas fired Tom Herman and college football fans everywhere were shocked

Wow.

After an up and down fourth season at Texas, the Longhorns have decided to move on from head coach Tom Herman.

The program announced they were firing the head coach on Saturday afternoon. Herman coached at Texas for four seasons, amassing a 32-18 record and three bowl wins.

In a statement after letting go of Herman, UT Athletic Director Chris Del Conte said they made the decision after evaluating the program’s strengths and weaknesses and where they were relative to their goals.

He admitted that the school has made progress over the last four years under Herman, but they aren’t quite where they want to be. He also wished Herman the best moving forward.

The school will owe Herman $15 million after his buyout, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Pete Thamel.

No news on Herman’s replacement is official as of yet, but Chip Brown of 247 Sports reports that Alabama Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian is expected to be named the school’s new head coach.

This was shocking. Not only because Texas was actually solid under Herman, but also because just a few weeks ago the program said he’d be returning.

Now he’s out. And the college football world is shocked.

Others had jokes. Lots of jokes.

Hopefully, Texas is really back after this one.
