Texas Longhorns edge rusher Barryn Sorrell has a chip on his shoulder. The productive pass rusher wants to make an even bigger impact in 2023.
Sorrell spoke with the Texas media outlining what he wants to accomplish in the upcoming season. His stated goal: “I want to have double digit sacks.” That’s a high marker but attainable should the Texas secondary continue to improve over the offseason.
The breakout stat compiler racked up 5.5 sacks in 2022. The reason he failed to get more sacks revolved around his lack of size. Barryn addressed that issue by putting on sizable bulk to his frame. And while the strength, conditioning and diet program left something to be desired early, strength and conditioning coach Torre Becton is to be commended for the muscle size he’s put on Sorrell.
Texas could use a difference maker at edge and Sorrell stands to be the most likely production on that front. Second-year edge Ethan Burke might be the next on the list with Justice Finkley in the mix as well.
If the Longhorns can get 10 sacks from Sorrell, it could all but guarantee the team’s prospects for double-digit wins this season.
