In just a few weeks, baseball players around the country will have their dreams come true in the MLB Draft. One player who has caught the eyes of many scouts is shortstop Bryce Rainer. While the talented shortstop is committed to the University of Texas, he is projected to be a top-ten pick in the latest mock draft from MLB draft expert Jonathan Mayo.
As MLB teams prepare for the draft, Rainer is viewed as one of the best high school players in the county alongside Konnor Griffin. In Mayo’s draft, Rainer is projected to be selected by the Washington Nationals with the tenth pick. Due to his hitting ability, the Westlake High School product has seen his stock skyrocket.
While Rainer certainly could go higher than this, it seems like he wouldn’t go much beyond here as the high school scouts seem to feel has the best pure hit tool. It’s certainly not out of the question that the Nats go with the toolsy Griffin, allowing Rainer to go next.
Rainer is a hot commodity, but he could also improve his game at the college level. With him in the lineup, the Longhorns would have an elite hitter who is solid in the field. He has also shown the ability to make consistently hard contact from the left side and drive the ball to all fields, in any offense that would be a welcome addition.
Over the next few weeks, Rainer will be a name to watch. He has the potential to be a future star, and many like Mayo expect him to hear his name called early. He has received comparisons to Rangers star Corey Seager.
Regardless of his path, Rainer has a bright future as the fixture of a team’s infield.
