Chris Beard overhauled the Texas roster this past offseason.
The rebuilt Longhorns include seven transfers, four returners and one freshman. Understandably, Texas is still figuring out its identity early in the season.
One thing for certain is that U-Mass transfer Tre Mitchell will be a major part of the Texas offense now and going forward.
Mitchell did not get the start in the first two games of the season but has played his way into the starting lineup during the first few games of the year.
Mitchell averaged 15 points and 7.5 rebounds in Texas’ victories over Northern Colorado and San Jose State shooting 13-19 from the field and 2-4 behind the arc.
Those stats were good enough to earn Mitchell the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week Award. He is the first Longhorn to receive Big 12 honors this season.

No. 8 Texas will be back in action against California Baptist on Nov. 24. The Horns will look to improve to 4-1 on the season.
