Texas’ bench had become one of its strong suits during the 10-1 start. Kai Jones was averaging 8.5 points and 4.8 points per game. Players like Royce Hamm and Brock Cunningham were not exactly filling up the stat sheet, but would make important plays that you would not find in a box score.

Against Texas Tech, the bench virtually went missing. Jones did not have his best game, only scoring three points on two shot attempts. Hamm was the only other bench player to even put up a point, getting one from the free-throw line. Neither Cunningham and Donovan Williams found themselves on the score sheet.

Texas’ starting five is strong from the top to the bottom. Each of them have the opportunity to go off and lead the team to a victory. However, getting solid production from your bench, especially from a sixth man like Jones is crucial.
