Even after another tough and inconsistent stretch, the Longhorns did not budge in the most recent AP Poll.
Texas remained at the No. 20 spot after splitting their last six games, and going 1-2 in their last three. This team still seems to lack identity, and feels as if they are still figuring out how to play with one another. In the most recent loss, the two best players in Marcus Carr and Timmy Allen combined for six points on 2-of-12 shooting, which absolutely cannot happen.
Texas’ struggles led to them being surpassed by schools like Murray State and Arkansas, but are ahead of programs such as UConn and Ohio State.
It also doesn’t help that the Longhorns are without their big man Tre Mitchell, who is out due to personal reasons, and has missed the last couple games. Texas fans are still awaiting for the team to turn on the switch and go on a nice win streak, but the Chris Beard’s squad struggles mightily when other teams are athletic and have quality big men.
They will have a prime opportunity to avenge their loss to Baylor on Feb. 28, which could help them in the next rankings.
