Shaka Smart’s team has had a successful past week, going 3-1. That included the Maui Invitational, with wins over Davidson, Indiana, and North Carolina. To cap the seven-day stretch off, the Longhorns fell to Villanova at home in the Big 12/Big East battle.

Despite the loss on Sunday, Texas has moved up four spots in the latest AP poll. Since Shaka Smart took over in 2015, this is the Longhorns highest ranking under the head coach. Last week’s No. 17 ranking was the previous highest.
For the rest of the Big 12, four other schools remain ranked. No. 2 Baylor is on a different level this season, being head and shoulders above college basketball with Gonzaga. The two were supposed to play on Saturday but had to cancel due to COVID-19.
No. 5 Kansas moves up two spots after defeating Kentucky in the Champions Classic. West Virginia (No. 11) and Texas Tech (No. 17) both remained where they were in previous weeks after suffering top 10 losses to Gonzaga and Houston respectively.
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State received votes but were well off from reaching the top 25.
