Texas Basketball: Longhorns jump into AP poll top five after Kansas win

Texas has moved up to No. 4 in the latest AP poll, their highest ranking since Feb. 2011. The rise comes off a historic win vs No. 6 Kansas.

Texas has moved up to No. 4 in the latest AP poll, their highest ranking since Rick Barnes was the head coach in Feb. 2011.

The rise comes off of a historic win against Kansas in Lawrence on Saturday. The 25 point loss was the largest that the Jayhawks had ever suffered at home under Bill Self.

Baylor remains undefeated and the highest-ranked Big 12 team at No. 2 behind Gonzaga. Kansas fell three spots, landing just outside the top five at No. 6. Those two teams, along with Texas, appear to be the three teams that will compete for the regular-season conference championship.

West Virginia (No. 14) and Texas Tech (No. 18) are the only other two Big 12 teams ranked despite being 1-2 to begin conference play. The Longhorns will play the Mountaineers on Jan. 9 and the Red Raiders on Jan. 13.
