Texas Basketball: Latest bracketology shows Longhorns as four seed

With a solid resume, Texas finds itself as a four seed in the latest USA TODAY Sports Bracketology.

Shaka Smart has put together his best team during his six year stint in Austin. The guard play of Matt Coleman, Andrew Jones, and Courtney Ramey plus the addition of former five-star Greg Brown have elevated the Longhorns into one of the top teams in the country.

Texas currently sits with a 13-5 record (7-4 in the Big 12). Three games are currently on the schedule in West Virginia, Kansas, and Texas Tech. Makeup games against TCU, Baylor, and Oklahoma are still to be determined.

With a solid resume that includes wins over Indiana, North Carolina, and West Virginia, the Longhorns find themselves as a four seed in the latest USA TODAY Sports Bracketology. Texas would face Winthrop in the first round and if they pull out a victory, a tough second round game against Florida State would be in store.

Here is the full bracket:

Labeled in the South region, Baylor, Kansas, and Oklahoma State would be in the same bracket as Texas. Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and West Virginia would make seven Big 12 teams in the tournament. Only the Big Ten (nine) would have more.

Finishing the season with a couple of wins and making a run in the conference tournament could boost the Longhorns back closer to the two or three lines. A marquee win before heading into the NCAA Tournament is something Smart will be looking for.
