Chris Beard and company have a chance to add their first member of the 2023 recruiting class.
Five-star forward Ron Holland out of Duncanville, Texas announced via Twitter on Sunday that he has trimmed his list down to eight schools. The No. 1 overall recruit in the state of Texas recently spoke with 247Sports to explain the reasoning behind naming his top schools at this time.
I feel like it is coming down to a point where I need to cut down my list because I don’t want to waste anybody’s time. I feel like it’s time to lock in the options that are the best for me to help reach my goals.
Holland also expressed the importance of getting to the NBA, which he feels these eight potential landing spots can help him get there. Aside from Texas, he is deciding between Kentucky, UCLA, Memphis, Arkansas, Auburn, Houston and the NBA G League.

Holland broke down each of his finalists and what they bring to his recruitment. Here’s what he had to say specifically about Texas.
Texas, it is the brand. It is one of the biggest brands and I’m from Texas. If I go there I’m going to be known in Texas and I really feel like they can help get me to my goals. They have been able to put dudes in the league too.
Holland would be a great start to the 2023 class, and the future of Texas basketball as after 2022 they will be losing a few experienced players.
