Texas baseball has quietly climbed its way back into relevance. Saturday marked 13 consecutive wins for the program after a slow start.
Texas head coach David Pierce helped guide the club to a series win over the No. 14 Texas Tech Red Raiders this weekend. The two wins over Tech add credibility to the team’s winning streak after facing lesser teams.
For Texas, it means the team is alone in first place at 2-0 in conference play. Sitting at 17-7, only Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and West Virginia have more overall wins on the season. Each of those three have 18 wins.
Some eulogized the Longhorns early in the season after the ball club started 3-6. They have since gone 14-1.
Dylan Campbell and Porter Brown carried the day hitting a combined 5-for-7 and 4 runs batted in Saturday. The rest of the team went 3-for-21 from the plate. Their clutch play could pay dividends as the season progresses.
The next two games are likely to get fans fired up. Texas closes its series at home against Texas Tech on Sunday before traveling to face the reeling Texas A&M Aggies (15-8, 1-4 in SEC play). The midweek matchup will take place on Tuesday.
