Texas baseball is fueled by hostile environments

Texas can quiet the opposition like they did in Greenville.

Texas baseball is used to being hated by opposing fans.

Their road trip to East Carolina was just one of many examples of hostile crowds that they face. According to Texas head coach David Pierce, the Longhorns feed off the hate.

“People just kind of get tired of Texas to be honest with you – and so we feed off of that,” Pierce said prior to Texas’ 38th trip to the College World Series.

Opposing fans have reason to be tired of Texas. There have been more World Series played with Texas (38) than without Texas (37).

The hate for Texas runs especially deep with the remaining teams in this year’s College World Series. The remaining eight includes their three rivals, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Arkansas.

The obsession with Texas is encapsulated by the end of Texas A&M’s fight song, “saw Varsity’s horns off.”

Nevertheless, Texas has the opportunity to quiet the opposition like they did in the Greenville Super Regional last weekend. They look to start with a bounce back game from their ace pitcher Pete Hansen on the mound.
