After Texas A&M (4-3, 2-2 SEC) dropped back-to-back games on Saturday in a loss to No. 17 Tennessee (5-1, 2-1 SEC), there’s a sense that they could find themselves outside of the SEC title game picture. As for the AP Top 25 picture, there’s no murkiness.
The Aggies were shut out in the latest AP Top 25 Poll through Week 7, having not received a single vote. Last week, the Maroon and White stayed alive with five votes following a close loss to No. 11 Alabama. After Jimbo Fisher and company failed to win an SEC road game yet again since 2021, it’s clear the AP voters had seen enough.
Elsewhere in the AP Top 25, the top four remain unchanged with the likes of No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Ohio State, and No. 4 Florida State holding firm. For the first time in six years, Washington propelled itself into the top five following a thrilling 36-33 win over Oregon, who dropped one spot to No. 9.
Air Force, who remains one of the few programs to stand undefeated through six games, ranked for the first time since 2019, sitting at No. 22.
