Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman is excited to begin his redemption season

Conner Weigman’s redemption tour starts in primetime vs. Notre Dame

Whatever the outcome of Texas A&M’s 2024 season, starting quarterback Conner Weigman will be at the head of any success or failure we’ll witness in head coach Mike Elko’s inaugural season with the program.

Weigman’s skill set is undeniable, as the former 5-star prospect in the Aggie’s historic 2022 recruiting class is already receiving praise from NFL draft analysts as the potential No. 1 quarterback prospect despite only recording nine starts since the 2022 season. Still, elite traits always trump production, surprisingly.

This summer, the redshirt sophomore participated in the annual Manning Passing Academy to sharpen his skills while adding more muscle mass to his frame this offseason under new strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt.

Despite missing the final eight games of the 2023 season due to his ankle injury, Weigman still passed for nearly 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns, exhibiting NFL-level accuracy, touch, and, most importantly, toughness in the pocket.

After A&M’s 14th fall practice on Saturday, Weigman, along with cornerback Tyreek Chappell and linebacker Scooby Williams, spoke to the local media to update the progress made by every position group, as A&M’s talented signal-caller is ready to get things rolling ahead of the season opener vs. Notre Dame:

“It’s been a long time coming, and I can’t wait to get out there on August 31.”

Concerning how the team has come together this month, Weigman feels that despite the nearly 30 incoming transfers and 2024 freshman class arriving this summer, this group is tight:

“It’s been awesome. The brotherhood we have built in a short period of time… We have done a really good job of that.”

While the 2024 Aggie offense under new OC Collin Klein will take a couple of games to perfect its scheme, the former Kansas State coordinator has been impressed with Weigman’s accuracy and poise in the pocket. He knows he can trust him to run things when the in-game pressure mounts.

No. 20-ranked Texas A&M will host No. 7-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday, August 31 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on ABC.
