Texas A&M OC Collin Klein is looking to build consistency on offensive

As the Aggies’ usher in a new offense, consistency is the key

One thing that plagued Texas A&M’s offense during the Jimbo Fisher era, aside from injuries, was overall consistency. They never seemed to assemble a solid offensive identity after longtime quarterback Kellen Mond left for the NFL. Another issue was the complexity of the offense and how much pressure it put on the quarterback, causing numerous unforced errors.

As a defensive coach, Mike Elko had to find the right hire to run the offense he wanted to establish. Enter former Kansas State OC Collin Klein, one of the better young minds in the game who brings youth and decisiveness to a talented group of athletes.

However, it is a new offense, and a few growing pains must be worked through practice, which has been the case this fall. The most important thing is timing and getting comfortable with the new playbook to create consistency, and according to Klein, starting quarterback Conner Weigman is starting to master the scheme:

“The biggest thing we are working on is consistency. Conner (Weigman) has really stepped up and put some balls in tight windows.

“I have been really pleased.”

Weigman’s accuracy and touch is a given based on how he performed in four games last season, but knowing the tough secondary he’ll face vs. Notre Dame, this is certainly encouraging.
