Texas A&M junior point guard Wade Taylor IV named Naismith Award Player of the Week

Junior guard Wade Taylor IV earned the Naismith Awards’ Player of the Week after leading the Aggies to a top-10 win on Saturday at Reed Arena.

After leading the Texas A&M men’s basketball team to a Top 10 win this weekend at Reed Arena, junior point guard Wade Taylor IV was named the Naismith Awards’ Player of the Week on Monday morning.

The Naismith Trophy is the most prestigious amateur award, given annually to high school and college student-athletes. Taylor earned the accolade after leading the Aggies (15-8, 6-4 SEC) to two conference wins this past week, 79-60 at Mizzou on Wednesday and 85-69 versus No. 6 Tennessee on Saturday night.

He averaged 21.5 points per game. Fifteen of Taylor’s 25 points against the Volunteers came from downtown. He knocked down five 3-pointers and tossed out 7 assists.

Taylor was recently named a midseason top 10 candidate for the 2024 Bob Cousy Award. On Saturday, the junior PG and his tag team partner Tyrece Radford became the third pair of teammates in the last 25 years to each tally at least 25 points and 5 assists against a Top 10-ranked opponent.
