Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has a lot on his plate, but in just three months on the job, recruiting some of the top athletes in the country, including 4-star running back Akylin Dear out of Quitman, Mississippi.
While the Aggies’ running back room heading into the 2024 season is loaded with veteran talent, due to the evergrowing transfer portal, anything can happen year to year, meaning successfully landing elite running back talent through recruiting is vital.
Standing at 6-1 and weighing just over 200 pounds, Dear possesses sprinter speed, impressive vision, and footwork once he makes his initial cut upfield. During his 2023 junior season at Quitman HS, Dear was the focal point on offense, accumulating 2,016 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns on the year, including three touchdown passes.
Receving nearly 25 offers, Dear is current favorite to land with Ole Miss, but after releasing hist Top 12 program list, Texas A&M has joined the Rebels along with Alabama, Florida State, Georiga, Florida, Tennessee, Ohio State, Auburn, Miami, Mississippi State and Texas.

According to 247Sports Composite, Dear is currently positioned as the 69th-ranked prospect in the 2025 cycle, the 4th-ranked running back and the 3rd-ranked player in Mississippi.
