Texas A&M fall football camp: Thursday practice highlights

Here are the highlights from Texas A&M’s second full practice of the 2023 fall football season

What if I told you that one of the biggest stories to come out of the start of Texas A&M’s fall football camp was the weight loss/gains throughout the roster, including star defensive tackle Walter Nolen dropping 30 pounds ahead of his pivotal sophomore campaign? Yes, it’s essential.

On Wednesday, Head Coach Jimbo Fisher and senior offensive lineman Layden Robinson spoke to the media ahead of A&M’s first practice of the season, as the quarterback competition between Conner Weigman and Max Johnson will likely take center stage of the current linebacker and offensive line depth. Of course, no Texas A&M press conference can be complete without questions regarding offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino’s eminent personality.

Thursday’s practice shifted most of our attention to the defense, as the Aggies’ deep and talented defensive line went through many drills. In contrast, the underrated defensive back group also showed off their coverage skill set. At the same time, the linebackers, a postion that can’t afford attrition, may have found a proven depth piece in Jackson State linebacker Jurriente Davis, who currently looks to be in excellent football shape.

Inching towards Sunday’s open practice at Kyle Field, here are the top highlights from Texas A&M’s second fall practice on Thursday afternoon.
