It was announced on Tuesday that Aggie Cross Country Coach Wendel McRaven was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country South Central Region Women’s Coach of the Year.
Coach McRaven and his staff have led the women’s team to their best conference championship finish in nearly a decade and their first national championship birth in over two decades.
He said it was a team effort, and they showed a lot of consistency throughout the season:
“We stayed consistent all season long. Our group started the year strong and was able to continue to improve throughout the season. When we entered the postseason, I thought our women showed a lot of maturity at the SEC Championship, as they stuck to their plan and raced smart. I think that set us up well for the regional meet, where we stepped up once again and qualified for nationals.”
Congratulations to coach @wmcraven for being named the @USTFCCCA's South Central Region Women's Coach of the Year đź‘Ť
