Texas A&M cross country coach named as the 2023 Coach of the Year

Off the heels of a successful season, Wendel McRaven was named Cross and Country Women’s Coach of the Year.

It was announced on Tuesday that Aggie Cross Country Coach Wendel McRaven was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country South Central Region Women’s Coach of the Year.

Coach McRaven and his staff have led the women’s team to their best conference championship finish in nearly a decade and their first national championship birth in over two decades.

He said it was a team effort, and they showed a lot of consistency throughout the season:

“We stayed consistent all season long. Our group started the year strong and was able to continue to improve throughout the season. When we entered the postseason, I thought our women showed a lot of maturity at the SEC Championship, as they stuck to their plan and raced smart. I think that set us up well for the regional meet, where we stepped up once again and qualified for nationals.”

Congratulations to Coach Wendel McRaven on the achievement and the successful Cross-Country season. We look forward to what the future has for the program.
