Texas 5-Star Commit Jonah Williams Shuts Down Recruitment

The Galveston Ball 5-Star Athlete is expected to sign with the Longhorns as soon as tomorrow.

Five-star safety/linebacker Jonah Williams has officially ended his recruitment, solidifying his commitment to the Texas Longhorns ahead of the early signing period, which begins Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Williams, a standout two-sport athlete from Galveston Ball, announced his decision Sunday on X, posting photos in Texas football and baseball gear. The announcement leaves little doubt that Williams will sign with the Longhorns during the three-day signing window.

The early signing period runs from Dec. 4-6, with Texas set to face the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT in Atlanta. Williams, despite a season-ending injury in October, remains one of the most highly regarded prospects in the 2025 class and is expected to make an impact both on the field and on the diamond in Austin.

Williams stood out early this season, showcasing his versatility with five touchdowns in Galveston Ball’s 54-26 season-opening win. His performance included two rushing touchdowns, two receiving touchdowns, and one on a kick return. His 2023 junior campaign was equally impressive, featuring 54 tackles (four for loss), four interceptions—three of which were returned for touchdowns—and eight pass breakups.

Despite reported heavy interest from LSU and Alabama as recently as September, Williams appears unwavering in his decision to join the Longhorns. He reiterated his commitment in an interview with Rivals, stating, “I’m pretty locked in with Texas. It’ll really take a lot for me to flip.”

Williams’ recruitment is another major win for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, as the Longhorns continue to bolster their class with top-tier talent. The Texas Longhorns compete in the SEC Championship against Georgia on Saturday Dec. 7th from Atlanta.
