Texans S Justin Reid to stay with No. 20, not wear old Stanford jersey number

The NFL expanded the numbers on uniforms. However, don’t expect Houston Texans safety Justin Reid to change his anytime soon.

The NFL approved a measure to expand the jersey numbers for skill positions.

Running backs, receivers, and tight ends get to pick from the expanded jersey field of one through 49 and also 88 through 89.

Linebackers get to pick one through 59 along with 90 through 99.

Defensive backs have also had their jersey numbers expanded from one through 49.

There is some speculation that some Houston Texans players will change their jersey numbers. However, don’t include safety Justin Reid in that number. The fourth-year safety from Stanford replied to a tweet on Wednesday when a fan asked if he would bring back his old college number.

“Nahh,” Reid replied. “20 all the way.”

The former Stanford Cardinal sported the number eight throughout his collegiate playing days. After the Texans drafted Reid with the No. 68 overall pick in Round 3 of the 2018 NFL draft, their first selection of the draft, he chose the number 38 throughout the offseason program and training camp. At the end of preseason, he switched to number 20, and it has become his identity as a pro since.
