Texans S Jalen Pitre says rookie QB C.J. Stroud is a ‘real professional’

Houston Texans safety Jalen Pitre has seen enough from rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud to declare he is a “real professional.”

C.J. Stroud knows that in order to turn around the Houston Texans it will take a collective effort.

Even if the No. 2 overall pick wins the starting quarterback job outright, Stroud won’t be able to elevate the team unless he elevates his own game. To help with the process, the former Ohio State product has enlisted the help of his new teammates.

Second-year safety Jalen Pitre told reporters May 23 after organized team activities that Stroud has demonstrated he is a “real professional.”

“Every day he’s looking for something to get better at,” said Pitre. “Today after OTA2, he come up to the DBs asking different things we’re seeing and different ways he can get better. It’s a real professional in C.J., and you could see why he was drafted so high because he really cares about the game of football.”

It isn’t just on the practice field or inside NRG Stadium where Stroud has impressed Pitre with his demeanor. Even in interviews, wherein Stroud has reaffirmed that nothing will be handed to him despite his lofty draft status, Pitre is hearing language incumbent of a competitor.

“It just shows that he’s a true competitor, a guy that wants to work and a guy that wants to compete at everything,” Pitre said. “You can hear that in his voice, and I’m happy he’s on my team.”
