Texans RB Dameon Pierce breaks into top-5 of CBS Sports’ rookie rankings

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce managed to crack the top-5 of CBS Sports’ rookie rankings following Week 13.

The Houston Texans have hardly anything to show on offense, other than their fourth-round running back who is 139 yards away from the 1,000 yards rushing mark.

According to Josh Edwards from CBS Sports, Dameon Pierce was the fifth-best rookie in their power rankings following the conclusion of Week 13.

All any running back in a slump needs is a chance to play the Browns. Cleveland ranks in the bottom half of the league in rushing yards allowed per game. After recording just 16 rushing yards over his previous two games, the Florida product rushed for 73 yards against his AFC North foe.

Pierce returning to the top-5 is interesting given the fact he posted just eight yards in each of the previous two weeks. However, Pierce had a paucity of carries as he had five against the Miami Dolphins and then 10 against Washington.

The Texans may have an opportunity for Pierce to have another decent game if they can execute properly. The Dallas Cowboys give up 4.6 yards per carry, tied for the ninth-most in the NFL. The Cowboys also give up 129.8 rushing yards per game, the ninth-most in the league, suggesting that Dallas’ defense truly does struggle to contain the run.

Houston kicks off against Dallas Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time from AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
