Texans OC Tim Kelly says WR Chris Conley ‘does everything we want’

Houston Texans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly has been impressed with the way that receiver Chris Conley has delivered for the passing game.

One of the sundry veterans the Houston Texans inked in free agency was receiver Chris Conley.

The former Kansas City Chief and Jacksonville Jaguar signed a one-year contract in the offseason. On his prove-it deal, Conley has shown he can still be an effective contributor for any passing attack.

“Chris does a great job,” offensive coordinator Tim Kelly said. “He does everything we ask him to do, was really excited for him. Had a big week last week, not just on Sunday but during the week.”

Although the 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots was more of wideout Chris Moore’s coming out party, Conley was integral with three catches for 84 yards and a touchdown.

“He does everything we want, he’s a great pro, he catches the ball when the ball comes his way,” Kelly said. “So, yeah, we are going to try to find ways to get him the ball, but a lot of times the balls going to find guys that are winning and are open. For him that hasn’t happened yet, but that’s not because he hasn’t won or anything along those lines.”

Through five games, four of which Conley has started, the former 2015 third-round pick from Georgia has caught six passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.

“We are going to try to continue to get him the ball,” said Kelly. “Obviously we saw on Sunday good things happen when he touches it.”

The Texans have another opportunity to get Conley involved in the passing game as they take on the Indianapolis Colts Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time from Lucas Oil Stadium.
