The Houston Texans may use one of their top-100 picks to address the secondary in the 2022 NFL draft.
According to Aaron Wilson from the Pro Football Network, Texans coach Lovie Smith had a private meeting with former Cincinnati Bearcats cornerback Ahmad Gardner after his pro day workout on March 24.
Taking Gardner with the No. 3 overall pick that Houston possesses in Round 1 would be overvaluing the 6-3, 200-pound cornerback. However, the Texans also have a pick at No. 13 thanks to the Deshaun Watson trade with the Cleveland Browns. If Houston has a shot at Gardner at No. 13, the value would make sense and the 21-year-old from Detroit’s Martin Luther King High School would fill a need.
Gardner collected 40 combined tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, three interceptions, and four pass breakups in 13 games for the Bearcats in 2021.
