HOUSTON — The Houston Texans ended their 2021 season with a 28-25 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, and the next 48 hours could bring significant changes to the organization, starting with coach David Culley.
Prior to the Texans’ Week 18 loss to the Titans, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Texans will evaluate their entire football operation — which includes the future of Culley.
Culley said during his post-game press conference that he has not had any discussions with general manager Nick Caserio about his future but is confident about his return for 2022.
“I’m just looking forward to this offseason and moving forward with the team,” Culley said. “As of right now, I feel like I will be coaching this team next year. I have not had any questions or doubts about what’s going to happen. I am looking forward to being the head coach of this football team next season.”
The Texans went 4-13 under Culley during his first season as head coach, and the team will know more about his fate following Monday’s exit interview with Caserio and management.
“I think he did a great job,” rookie quarterback Davis Mills said. “He was a great leader for the team. In the game of football, it comes doing to wins and losses, but he had full faith and this team and led us well all season. I love him as a coach, and I hope he is back.”
Culley became the fourth head coach in franchise history in January of 2021 after he signed a five-year deal. Following the Texans’ loss to the Titans, Culley admitted that he wishes his team would have won more games throughout the 2021 campaign.
