The Houston Texans claimed safety Kareem Jackson off waivers on Tuesday after he was waived by the Denver Broncos on Monday. The Broncos cut the safety with hopes of re-signing Jackson to the practice squad after he returned from a four-game suspension last week.
Jackson now returns to the city where his NFL career began when he was picked by Houston in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft out of Alabama. He played with Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans from 2010-2011 (Ryans was a linebacker at the time).

Earlier this season, the Broncos went 2-0 during Jackson’s first suspension of the season. After the safety returned, coach Sean Payton told him to not “mess anything up.”
“I told him that we’re on a little bit of a roll and don’t mess anything up now,” Payton said on Nov. 16.
After returning from his first suspension in Week 11, Jackson was promptly ejected for unnecessary roughness and then given a four-game suspension. Denver went 2-2 during Jackson’s second suspension and lost on Sunday while Jackson was on the exempt list.
The Broncos are now 7-8 and barely alive in the NFL playoff hunt. Jackson, 35, has a better chance to reach the postseason with the 8-7 Texans.
Jackson played in Denver from 2019-2023, totaling 393 tackles, 22 pass breakups, six interceptions and one sack in 69 games with the Broncos. Jackson will become a free agent in March.
