Texans C Justin Britt having fun with different guard combinations

Houston Texans center Justin Britt says that he likes working with different guards with Lane Taylor and Justin McCray.

The Houston Texans went with another guard combination in Week 14 against the Seattle Seahawks as veterans Justin McCray and Lane Taylor started along the interior offensive line.

Taylor made his third consecutive start of the season at left guard as McCray switched over to the right side to replace Max Scharping.

Center Justin Britt thought the combination had some success against the Seahawks.

“I feel like any of us in the room can start for an NFL team,” Britt said. “So, whenever someone plugs in, it’s just, all right, let’s figure out how we gel together and make that work for the best because Lane blocks different than McCray and both block differently than Max. So, you’ve just got to rep, and repetition and going about it.”

The Texans’ offense generated 380 total yards, the first time since Week 8 against the Los Angeles Rams Houston had over 300 yards. The Texans fell 33-13, but the game was close early in the fourth quarter with Houston trailing 19-13 at NRG Stadium.

The run game continues to be an issue for Houston as they tallied 63 yards on 25 carries with a 2.5 yards per carry. If the chemistry with Britt and the rest of the offensive linemen excels, so could the interior blocking.

“I’m having a lot of fun working with these guys up front,” said Britt. “The season’s gone a little rough, but the relationships and how we come about it, how we go to work throughout the week, we’re being professionals about this. We’ll do the same this week.”

Houston protected quarterback Davis Mills fairly well with just two sacks taken. In his last start against the Rams, Mills was sacked five times.

The Texans go on the road to play the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15 at TIAA Bank Field.
